Tiny Bubbles

Tiny Bubbles, Original Ink Drawing by Thaneeya McArdle

Tiny Bubbles – 6″ x 9″ – Ink Drawing on Paper

Available for purchase here

I recently finished this intricately-detailed pen and ink drawing.  The theme of this highly charged drawing is the mythic concept of existence and consciousness. An array of variously-sized bubbles floats across a black starry cosmos. Inside the bubbles are elaborately-detailed psychedelic eyes, each one bursting with a special uniqueness. The composition of this piece represents the interconnectedness of life amidst our apparent individualities. This drawing is incredibly detailed; you can see close-ups below.

Here’s my latest abstract painting, a colorful delight of swirls and patterns that remind me of summer, and of things growing and ripening, ready for harvest.  The colors and designs of this painting make me happy.

Chihuahua Drawing, work-in-progress

Paco – 5″ x 7″ – Colored Pencils on Paper

Work in progress

As you can see, Paco is still a work in progress.  I’ve still got to finish the top half of his head and his ears.  So far he’s quite a cosmic Chihuahua!

I have about as much fun designing products with these dogs as I do actually drawing them.  Here are a few of my favorite newest Punk Rock Puppy creations:

There are many more products available for each puppy design in my Zazzle shop!  These puppies really are fun and addictive to create, so I look forward to creating many more.

Two Pink Cupcakes

I finished the Two Pink Cupcakes painting!  (Here is a photo of the painting in progress.)  I’m really happy with the way this one turned out.

Here is a side view of the painting on my work desk, taken shortly after I finished it.  You can see the reference photo behind it:

Cupcake Painting

The photo was taken as dusk was settling in, hence the slightly bluish tinge.  I will take another photo when the lighting is better!

Here is another view of the painting on my desk.  I wanted to show this one because it captures two more paintings behind it: the funky abstract on the left, and the expressionist portrait on the right.  I hate wasting paint, so I normally work on several paintings at once.  Hence you can see a similar color scheme amongst all three of these paintings.  When working on the photorealist painting, I usually have to wait awhile for the thin watery glazes to dry, so I need something else to do.  This is when having other paintings-in-progress comes in handy!

Punk Rock Puppies – New Series

I had so much fun with my first Punk Rock Puppy that I’ve decided to make these groovy pooches into a series.  Here is a work-in-progress scan of the next two, a Boston Terrier and an English bulldog:

Boston Terrier & English bulldog drawings

These are done with Prismacolor colored pencils on paper.  I’ve never been too interested in doing actual, real-life portraits of animals and pets (boring!*), but I seem to have found my groove with doing “funky” animal portraits, injecting unexpected doses of color and whimsical accents like colorful stars.  It somehow fits in better with my artistic sensibilities and personal inclinations.  So far it’s a lot of fun!  (*edit: I don’t mean to be snarky with the “boring” comment — it’s just that I personally get bored doing “normal” portraits — my hats off to people who do paint them!!)

I’ve uploaded the Boston Terrier to Zazzle.  Here is a sample of some of the cool stuff I created using my Boston Terrier drawing:

Boston Terrier t-shirt

I will also be making these doggie designs into jewelry in the near future.

I’m open to suggestions if anyone would like to see a particular breed made into a Punk Rock Puppy!
