Self-Portraits

Self-Portrait of Thaneeya, featuring one of her drawings

Fiddling with Photoshop the other day, I put together this photo of me that was taken this past Christmas, with my drawing Unraveling the Telescopic Mind Incident.  I made two versions, and I’m not sure which one I prefer.  Any opinions?  I like them both!

Homeless in Una Watuna

Dog Portrait Painting

Una – 5″ x 7″ Acrylic on Canvas Panel

I painted this dog portrait several years ago.  This adorable puppy is based on a photograph I took of a homeless dog in Una Watuna, Sri Lanka.  I stayed there for several days in a beachfront hotel before embarking for India.  This cute dog always hung around.  The poor thing was homeless, but he was so sweet and had the softest fur.  He really was a gentle creature.

Una Watuna is one of the places that was wiped out during the 2004 tsunami.  Four years after the tsunami, and 10 years after I met this gorgeous canine spirit, I’d be very surprised if he was still alive.  But he’ll always have a special place in my memory, and I’m very glad we had the opportunity to cross paths.

ssssssssshhh…..

I’ve been a bit digitally quiet lately, working on art and exploring more of the Welsh countryside, but mainly working on a total revision of my website, which is proving to be intensely time-consuming!

In the meantime, here is a shot of the Welsh countryside. I particularly like this photo for the strong sense of isolation, and almost desolation, that I feel it evokes… a thin (one-lane) stretch of road snaking across empty terrain on a grey, overcast day. I feel it conveys the sense of quiet beauty that comes with open, empty spaces.
